Since the 1998 release of the first Guilty Gear for the PlayStation, the title has made additional appearances in Japanese arcade and console releases, but the tight, demandingly sophisticated 2D fighting series returns to U.S. shores in Guilty Gear X for the PS2. This release is notable for smooth, refined graphics, with richly detailed characters and backgrounds uncommon in 2D fighters.
Arc System Works celebrates the tenth anniversary of its 2D fighting series Guilty Gear in this updated remake of the 2007 game Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core. Accent Core Plus keeps the series' signature combo-heavy fighting and in-depth character backstories, but it also adds Guilty Gear mainstays Kliff and Justice to the mix, for a total of 25 playable fighters. Other additions include a re-tuned "Survival" mode with RPG-style character-leveling, three-man teams in the "Versus" mode, and a new "Story" mode that offers more than 350 potential scenarios.
Sammy Studios' acclaimed 2D fighting series returns to the PS2 with new characters, arenas, and gameplay modes in Guilty Gear Isuka. While adding a bevy of new features, the developers at Arc System Works strived to retain the characteristics that made the earlier Guilty Gear games successful, such as the combat system, character design, and background graphics. New play modes in Guilty Gear Isuka include two-on-two fighting and a four-player mode that pits combatants against the game's upgraded A.I. Players can also earn points, to be used in a new character customization mode, where they can purchase new moves and combos or change their character's appearance.
The Guilty Gear fighting series returns to PlayStation 2 with 23 playable characters, 14 backdrops, and a retooled combat system. Once again the action unfolds from a side-view perspective as anime-styled combatants unleash an assortment of punches, kicks, slashes, and special moves in dramatic, stylish fashion. The fast-paced fighting system introduces three new countering and defensive techniques to master: force breaks, throw escapes, and slash backs. Move lists for each character have also been tweaked for more balanced battles, and two fighters (Order-Sol and A.B.A.) make their U.S. version debut. Five play modes include Arcade, Versus, Survival, Training, and "Medal of Millionaire." The latter rewards characters with medals for stringing together elaborate combos. The more medals earned during each fight, the higher one's score. Accent Core also features an assortment of options, allowing players to customize everything from button configurations and round lengths to AI settings and time limits.
